Wedding budget FAQ
How much does a wedding cost in Canada?
A commonly cited current planning range is about C$30,000–C$42,000, but location, guest count and style can move the total far outside it. Whether rings and the honeymoon are included also changes the comparison.
How much does a wedding cost in the US?
The Knot’s 2026 Real Weddings Study reports an average of US$34,200 for ceremonies and receptions among 10,474 US couples married in 2025. Your region, guest count and selected vendors can move a real budget far above or below that average.
What is the largest wedding expense?
Venue, food and drinks are usually the largest combined category. Because much of it is charged per person, guest count is often the most powerful lever in the budget.
Are taxes and gratuities included?
The calculator is a planning range rather than a tax calculation. Vendor quotes may exclude GST/HST, service fees, gratuities, delivery, rentals or overtime. Ask for an all-in written total and use the included 5–10% contingency until every charge is confirmed.
Does a backyard wedding always cost less?
Not necessarily. You may avoid a conventional room rental, but tents, flooring, power, washrooms, furniture, lighting, staffing and cleanup can add a substantial fixed cost. The model includes a setup allowance for private-property events.
How can we lower the estimate fastest?
Reduce guest count, compare off-peak dates, choose a lower venue package and remove optional categories such as video or full-service planning. Protect the categories you value most instead of cutting every line equally.
